WASHINGTON — Online streaming service Netflix is set to launch two new features that aim to help families connect with their favorite shows and films.
The streaming platform will be launching an update that is a “bi-weekly kids recap email” that will be sent to parents from Netflix. The recap will contain information about their child’s preferences and tastes.
“We’re launching two new features to help families connect around their favorite series and films or discover their next favorite — whether it’s a fantasy film like Wish Dragon or an action-adventure series like Ridley Jones,” Jennifer Nieva, Director of Product Innovation at Netflix said in a blog.
“First, bi-weekly kids recap emails to give parents a better understanding of their child’s preferences and news ways to engage those interests.”
“The features include recommendations based on your child’s favorite shows and movies, printable coloring sheets and activities inspired by your kid’s favorite characters, top themes or topics charts that show the types of programs your child enjoys most (i.e., science, friendship); and tips for how to use our Kids features on Netflix,” Nieva said.
The second update is the introduction of the ‘Kids Top 10 rows’, which will showcase the most popular children’s content in the subscriber’s country.
This information will be available to subscribers to make it much easier for them to discover and explore various kid-friendly content on the platform.
“Shows and movies are an important way for kids to connect with the world–helping to teach them about new places, create bonds with family or friends, and understand other perspectives,” Nieva said in the blog post.
Both updates will be rolling out to Netflix subscribers worldwide starting right away.
Netflix also recently announced that it is venturing into the domain of online gaming, and the company has already hired the new Vice President for the vertical. The feature will be available for the users by 2022, and the users won’t be charged any amount for the same as of now.
Netflix will also be expanding into the podcast vertical, and N’Jeri Eaton, a former Apple, and NPR executive have been appointed as the company’s first head of podcasts.
“We go behind the scenes of series and films, dig deeper with your favorite stars, and explore the most exciting projects on the platform,” the company said in a blog.
“We also develop in-world content and other supplemental audio programs to help fans discover new favorites and learn more about the shows and films they already love.”
